KAZAKHSTAN DEMOLISH AUSTRALIA 3-1 TO SET UP 5TH-6TH PLAYOFF WITH OLD FOES CHINA

Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, August 10, 2019 – Kazakhstan, loaded with more potential players, proved a cut above Australia as they demolished the Young Volleyroos 3-1 (25-22, 14-25, 25-23, 25-22) in their 5th-8th playoff encounter at the SMM 3rd Asian Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship at Hall B inside the Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium on Saturday.

Following the impressive win, Kazakhstan go up against China in the Sunday’s 5th-6th place playoff, with Australia taking on Sri Lanka to vie for the 7th position.

Kazakhstan have two double-digit performances from Anas Zhumadilkov and Vladislav Kunchenko who similarly tallied 18 points. Matthew Aubrey led Australia with 18 points including 3 aces.

“My players showed a convincing performance. They had a good teamwork today. Australia benefitted from good blocks and their height advantage. Our opposite spikers did a good job and that was key to this victory,” Kazakhstan head coach Alexandr Pereguda said.

“I could only see 50 to 60 percent of what I asked my players before the match in the court. If my players believe in what I have said and play their own way, I’m upbeat they can overcome China on Sunday,” he added.
