A total of 40 participants from all over Malaysia especially educators had participated in the Beach Volleyball National Level Sports Refresher Workshop from July 28 to 30, 2023 at Corus Paradise Resort Port Dickson, Malaysia
The three-day workshop, organized by the Malaysia Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Beach Volleyball Committee of the Malaysia Volleyball Association (MAVA), was also the first step for the development of beach volleyball at the grassroots level.
Lauren Michelle Soderberg, former Australian national beach volleyball coach who piloted Australia to a second Olympic spot for their women’s beach volleyball teams in Rio de Janeiro, was specially flown in to lead this workshop intensively and further improve the skills and knowledge of the prospective participants had involved.
She has extensive expertise and experience in beach volleyball including involvement as a coach at the Olympic Games and also a FIVB certified instructor.

“I am very passionate about coach development and am grateful for the opportunity to work with so many passionate people trying to push forth the sport of beach volleyball. A special thank you for the coaches who put in long days with enthusiasm and interest,” she added.
Aside from the beach volleyball workshop, MAVA has also planned a structure for the development of beach volleyball in Malaysia, including the proposal that this sport be given a place in the Malaysian Sports School, school-level tournaments and specific coaching courses for beach volleyball.
