RENATO AND RAFAEL DELIVER DOUBLE VICTORIES FOR BRAZIL IN UDON THANI

Udon Thani, Thailand, June 19, 2019 – Brazilian twins Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and Rafael Andrew Lima de Carvalho started their FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 Men’s World Championship campaign with two wins on Wednesday at Thung Si Mueang.

The second-seeded Brazilian pair started with a 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) win over U19 world champions Denis Shekunov and Dmitrii Veretiuk and then completed their day with another straight-set (25-15, 25-12) triumph against Norway’s Karl Jorgen Mosvold and Asmund Lyngve Vingen Sunde.

“We are very happy we won two tough matches,” Rafael said. “In was a tough match against Russia because they were very good but we were focused to win and thank God we did. We just played calm and focused in the next match against Norway.”

“We trained hard and played very well in this match,” Renato added. “We are happy to be here in Udon Thani and excited to play in this competition.”

Other double match winners were from Italy in Pool D, Mexico in Pool E and Kazakhstan in Pool F.

Italians Jakob Windisch and Alberto Di Silvestre beat Uruguayans Esteban Bailon/Nicolas Bertran 2-0 (21-16, 21-16) and Austrians Arwin Kopschar/Paul Pascariuc 2-0 (21-15, 21-15), while Mexicans Miguel Sarabia and Raymond Gerald Stephens routed Nicaraguans Jefferson De Jesus Cascante/Denis Jose Lopes 2-0 (21-17, 21-18) and Cubans Jorge Luis Alayo/Lazaro Michel Portes 2-0 (21-14, 21-17).

The Kazakhs tandem Nurdos Aldash and Abdulmajid Mokhammad swept both their matches against Japanese pair Rikuto Goto and Ryuichi Adachi (21-18, 21-9) and Niger duo Moussa Idrissa and Boureima Mubarak (21-17, 21-14).

The other teams in other pools played only one match on Wednesday and the single-match winners are Germany’s Rudy Schneider/Filip John and Lukas Pfretzschner/Robin Sowa, Canada’s Ben Kerkhoff/Jonathan Pickett, Mozambique’s Jose Alberto Mondlane/Jorge Monjane, Slovenia’s Rok Mozic/Crtomir Bosnjak, Argentina’s Mauro Zelayeta/Bautista Amieva and France’s Theo Faure/Timothee Platre.

Thailand’s had an easy win as Youth Olympic Games gold medallists David Ahman and Jonathan Hellvig forfeited their match due to an injury.

The pool play matches will continue on Thursday, June 20.
