Sydney, Australia, March 9, 2019 – Italy’s Enrico Rossi and Adrian Carambula cruised to the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Sydney 3-star men’s final after their 2-0 (21-16, 21-16) win over the United States’ Stafford Slick and William Allen on Saturday.
“Our sideout has been very consistent,” Carambula said. “We’ve put pressure on our serve and we managed to be error free.
“The mentality is to take one game at a time, believe in our game, listen to our coach and stay together.”
Rossi and Carambula who are competing together for the first time on the World Tour, made a big jump from qualification to the final.
“We had a good month in Rio before coming here and we felt good about it,” Carambula explained. “This just confirms all of the work that we’ve been putting in and we are happy that we are here.”
The Italian pair has shown great chemistry on court to stay unbeaten in seven matches.
“We have very good balance. I bring a little bit of fire while my partner is very calm, so really balance each other out. When I am missing the fire, he’s the one that brings it out in the team.”
Marco and Esteban Grimalt of Chile claimed the semifinal win against Youssef Krou and Edouard Rowlandson of France. The Grimalts were up 11-9 in the first set when Krou suffered a shoulder dislocation while in play, forcing the Frenchmen to concede the match to the Chileans.
“We played a little bit better in blocking until that unfortunate incident on the court,” Esteban said. “It’s difficult to be in a winning situation when your opponents gets hurt, so I want wish him to get well soon.”
The gold medal match is scheduled at 14.00 local time.
