SEPAHAN FOULAD STOP YAZD SHAHDAB’S REMARKABLE RUN IN IRAN MEN’S SUPER LEAGUE

Tehran, Iran, January 22, 2021 – In-form Sepahan Foulad remained on course at the Iran Men’s Volleyball Super League as the pacesetters stopped the remarkable run of Yazd Shahdab to bring the lacklustre side down to the fifth place in this top-flight competition, iranvolleyball.com reported.

Six matches were held in Week 23 at two halls – Volleyball Federation Hall and Volleyball House of Tehran, with Tehran Saipa, Sirjan Foulad, Sepahan Foulad, Tehran Paykan, Urmia Shahrdari and Ardakan Khatam claiming victories.

Sepahan Foulad, which stayed atop the overall standings of the League following their blistering form of winning 16 matches against two losses after Week 22, performed superbly to beat Yazd Shahdab in impressive four-setter 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16 to continue their leading way.

The bitter loss has relegated Yazd Shahdab to the fifth position at the on-going League with 15 wins against five losses.

On the other site, Sirjan Foulad struggled to pull out a stunning straight-set 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 win against Varamin Shahrdari, champions at the 2019 Asian Men’s Club Championship in Chinese Taipei.

As expected, top three teams at the standings – Sepahan Foulad, Urmia Shahrdari and Amol Haraz Labaniat remained unchanged, while Sirjan Foulad moved up to replace Yazd Shahdab in the fourth position.

With the top three teams moving up to the more competitive playoffs, the next three teams – Sirjan Foulad, Yazd Shahdab and Tehran Saipai, also made their mark to join the fray.

Eight teams in total are to move up to the playoffs. Top six teams of the standings have already completed their mission, leaving only two more teams to fill the field.

The preliminary matches in Week 24 will take place on Sunday, January 24 at the above-mentioned two halls.
