The meeting focused on reviewing snow volleyball activities and planning for the years ahead
The FIVB Snow Volleyball Commission talked in depth about the sport’s future strategy and vision during its meeting this week held in the hybrid format, with FIVB 2nd Executive Vice-President, European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) President and Commission President Aleksandar Boričić, as well as the Commission Secretary Peter Kleinmann attending in-person from the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne.
The Commission discussed the activities of 2023, including the Snow Volleyball Festival organised together with the International University Sports Federation (FISU) in Torino, the CEV Tour in Wagrain, national snow volleyball tours, as well as various promotional events around the world.
The Continental Confederation Presidents, who attended the meeting in person, expressed their interest in organising continental snow volleyball competitions in 2024 and 2025 as a starting point to grow the sport in all five continents. In addition, they noted that communications with the FIVB will be enhanced to further promote snow volleyball among affiliated National Federations.
Opening the meeting, FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:
“We hosted the first FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour in 2019. It was a huge success with teams from all five continents, including Africa, participating.
“Over the last few seasons, there have been around 20 countries organising National Snow Volleyball Championships, or snow volleyball national tours. In 2023, there were six more countries organising national snow volleyball activities, and the FIVB encourages all Continental Confederations and National Federations to proactively be part of the sport.
“Our overall goal is to enhance the awareness of snow volleyball at both promotional and recreational levels, while focusing on youth programmes to develop dedicated snow volleyball players. I want to see more and more people have the opportunity to engage in this young, fun winter version of volleyball.”
The FIVB’s vision for snow volleyball centres on how it allows even more people to enjoy the sport, ensuring it is truly accessible 365 days a year and all over the world.
The Commission also discussed the 2024 snow volleyball calendar, the highlight of which will be the first ever CEV U20 Snow Volleyball Championships this winter, offering more opportunities for the players to engage with this exciting sport. The FIVB Commission meetings will continue this week with the Beach Volleyball Commission scheduled for 30 November.
