TEAM VANUATU FIRING UP FOR BIG SIX MONTHS AHEAD

The Vanuatu national women’s beach volleyball team hit the sand in Australia this weekend, as they begin the hard road to June and the final phases of Olympic qualification.

With plans to participate in 16 tournaments over the next 4-5 months, travelling between Australia, New Zealand and China on the beach volleyball competition circuit, Team Vanuatu are certainly prioritising the goal of getting to Paris in July.

Sherysyn Toko and Majabelle Lawac have this week headed to Australia to begin that journey, participating in three upcoming Queensland Volleyball Tour events (QBVT Rounds 7,8 & 9), starting this weekend in Surfers Paradise (13-14 Jan). with next week’s Rnd 8 Queensland Championship, the feature event.

Linline Matauatu will also be participating in the QBVT events, with the much-appreciated ongoing support from Rod Prestia and his team at IComply Agriculture Labour services.

Physio assessment, training sessions and a 4-day training camp will also be undertaken during this trip, in support of the ongoing high performance athlete development partnerships between VVF, ACU Physiotherapy, and the Australian government’s Pacific Aus Sports program.

Two New Zealand tour events are scheduled for mid-February for Toko and Lawac, with participation in the NZ Tour Finals, at the VVF favoured destination of Mt Maunganui, yet to be confirmed.

In addition to the women’s national team, VVF plan to send their men’s team to Tahiti in early April to participate in an FIVB Futures tournament.

The Team Vanuatu women’s squad will also head to China for close to a month at the end of April, to participate in 3 FIVB Futures events in Xiamen, Pingtan and Wuhan.

Team Vanuatu, as always, are able to participate to this extent on the international stage through the ongoing support from their major sponsors, Titan FX Vanuatu and P&O Cruises as well as benefitting from major partnerships with the FIVB Empowerment Project and the VASANOC/IOC Olympic Solidarity program.

All updates, tournament results and team news will, as always, be featured on the VVF social media platforms, as this busy competition year gets underway.
