TEAMS SET TO GET THROUGH TOUGH CHALLENGE IN AVC BEACH TOUR ROI ET OPEN FROM SEPT 10-12

Roi Et, Thailand, September 9 , 2022 – The AVC Beach Tour Roi Et Open is set to get off the ground on Saturday, September 10, at the Ban Nong Ya Ma Community School competition site here, with Asian champions Worapeerachayakorn Kongphopsarutawadee/Tarawadee Naraphornrapat from Thailand and Asian silver medallists Miki Ishii/Sayaka Mizoe from Japan tipped to top their pools.

A total of 22 teams from 12 countries will strut their stuff in the inaugural event from September 10 to 12 to vie for top honour and Asian points. The participating countries consist of Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong China, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia and hosts Thailand.

All teams kick off their campaign in this three-day event in the main draw, divided into eight pools (Pools A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H) to contest the pool round-robin preliminaries on Saturday, September 10. Only top two teams from each pool will advance to the single elimination round or the round of last 16 on Sunday morning, while winning teams will make it through to the afternoon’s quarterfinals. The semifinals, bronze-medal and gold-medal matches will take place on Monday, September 12.

According to the seedings in the main draw, THA1 Worapeerachayakorn/Tarawadee, who captured the Asian title on home soil last year in Phuket, are top seeds and competing in Pool A with 16th-seeds PHI2 Floremel Rodriguez/Genesa Jane Eslapor and 17th-seeds VIE Nguyen Lan Vu Ngoc/Nguyen Le Thi Tuong Vy.

Pool B consists of second seeds JPN1 Ishii/Miizoe, 15th-seeds PHI1 Cherry Ann Rondina/Bernadeth Pons and 18th-seeds SGP2 Alicia Tan A/Sharon Beh, while third-seeds CHN1 Lin Meimei/Xia Xinyi, 14th-seeds THA4 Suchinna Choemphun/Apinya Saengpaeng and 19th-seeds HKG Lok Yingkiu/Ng Wing Lamm are in Pool C.

Fourth-seeds CHN2 Wang Xinxin/Zeng Jinjin, 13th-seeds THA3 Jidapa Bunongkhun/Patcharaporn Seehawong and 20th-seeds TPE2 Li Yunting/Hsu Chianing are contesting Pool D, with Pool E featuring 5th-seeds JPN2 Yurika Sakaguchi/Akiko Hasegawa, 12th-seeds SGP1 Eliza Chong/Cecilia Soe and 21st-seeds TPE1 Hsu Yuchi/Sheng Tzuhsuan.

Sixth-seeds AUS1 Phoebe Bell/Nicole Laird are in Pool F with 11th-seeds NZL2 Olivia Macoonald/Jasmine Milton and 22nd-seeds MAS San Pinsin/Chong Yanyu. Pool G comprises 7th-seeds NZL1 Shaunna Polley/Alice Zeimann, 10th-seeds THA2 Woranatchayakorn Phirachayakrailert/Charanrutwadee Patcharamainaruebhorn, with Pool H featuring 8th-seeds VAN Toko Sherysyn/Majabelle Lawac and 9th-seeds AUS2 Alisha Stevens/Georgia Johnson.

The pool plays will kick off at 8am on Saturday, September 10 at the Ban Nong Ya Ma Community School competition courts, with top seeds THA1 Worapeerachayakorn Kongphopsarutawadee/Tarawadee Naraphornrapat taking on 17th-seeds VIE Nguyen Lan Vu Ngoc/Nguyen Le Thi Tuong Vy on Centre Court.

Ahead of the official kickoff on Saturday, Technical Delegate Kritsada Panaseri from Thailand and Referee Delegate Mariko Satomi from Japan jointly presided over the Friday’s General Technical Meeting to conduct the drawing of lots, with all participating teams attending to hear the rules and regulations as well as relevant information.
