THAILAND TAKE STRAIGHT-SETS ON AUSTRALIA IN AVC CUP

Pasig City, Philippines, August 22, 2022 – Thailand captured their first win in Pool B of the preliminary round of the 2022 AVC Cup for Women, after a 3-0 win (25-9, 27-25, 25-13) against Australia at the PhilSports Arena.

Thailand captain Pornpun Guedpard admitted that they did not know anything about their opponents and or what to expect from the encounter against them.

“We did not know their style, how they play, or what their rhythm is like.

“But after we lost yesterday’s match (against Japan), the team discussed how to move forward and it was important to just stick to our system, the Thai system of volleyball,’ she said.

The game plan worked for Monday’s match, as they ran their trademark plays running on a quick pace, with some heavy hitters to complement.

Thai opposite Pimpichaya Kokram led all scorers on the field, with 16 points (14 attacks and 2 service winners..

Australia picked up their pace and served better in the second set, scoring off several aces. Opposite Caitlin Tipping delivered a total of 11 points. With their performance, they showed that they could play along a tough opponent as they made good decisions in transition plays.

However, Thailand, once more, reverted to their system and dictated the tempo of the match, to take their first victory in the 7th edition of the competition.

Thailand take a day off and return on Wednesday, August 24, to face Chinese Taipei at 16:00; while Australia will play Chinese Taipei on Tuesday, August 23, at 13:00. All in local Philippine time.
