Author and FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° celebrates the success of the book, which narrates the pivotal moment in the FIVB’s history
A year and a half after its launch, The Set Point holds the number 1 ranking of volleyball books on Kindle, Amazon’s digital book reader last month. When searching for sports-themed titles, The Set Point is ranked second.
Co-authored by FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° and Maureen Flores, a post-doctoral researcher and consultant, the book was published in January 2022. It provides an in-depth exploration of the FIVB’s trailblazing journey that culminated in the partnership with CVC Capital Partners.
In the book, the authors explain each step taken from the moment the FIVB’s President recognised the lack of financial sustainability required to secure the future of volleyball. With remarkable courage, he initiated a change in mentality and the creation of a new annual event, the Volleyball Nations League, in addition to implementing cutting-edge technology, innovation and sports presentation across all of the FIVB’s events. These significant changes and visionary approach led to financial innovation and the historic partnership between the FIVB and CVC Capital Partners, alongside the launch of Volleyball World, the commercial entity for the sport of volleyball.
However, achieving sustainability does not take place overnight. The FIVB had to persistently invest in governance, professionals, and best management practices to reach the necessary state of preparedness and credibility before entering the market.
President Ary Graça celebrates the success of The Set Point which aims to inspire sports managers, innovation leaders and change-makers of all ages and from all walks of life and backgrounds.
“The year 2020 and the pandemic stressed the need for technological transformation and internalisation. More than ever, the momentum required financial resources, good management and governance. We did our homework and went to the market looking for a long-term partner to support the growth of volleyball internationally. We found CVC Capital Partners. In short, I thank the volleyball ecosystem, who understood that leading volleyball to the future demanded a change,” said Dr Ary Graça.
