Leon, Guanajuato will also have eight teams playing with the placing matches for positions nine to sixteen:

In pool E, European champions Italy qualified to the second round undefeated brushing aside NORCECA representatives United States, Mexico and Cuba. Italian head coach Massimo Bellano is aware that this stage of the event will be more difficult but will bring a great spectacle to watch.

Sharing the same pool is Russia, also unbeaten after defeating Turkey, Serbia and Argentina heading into the final eight.

Asian champion Japan in pool F is the other team to remain undefeated while prevailing against South American champion Brazil, Dominican Republic and Rwanda. For Aihara Noboru, this phase will be another test for his team, they are looking to remain fast and commit as few mistakes as possible.
