Boracay, Philippines, May 25, 2019 – Austrian Maximilian Trummer and Simon Baldauf stayed on course for a semifinal showdown with Japan’s Yuya Ageba and Nobuaki Taira, while top seeds Jumpei Ikeda and Katsuhiro Shiratori set up a playoff with Thailand’s Narongdet Kangkon and Banlue Nakprakhong in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Boracay Open.
Trummer and Baldauf battled hard to win both of their pool play matches in three sets on Friday, then came through an easier course when they beat third-seeded Chinese Taipei pair Wang Chin-Ju and Hsieh Ya-Jen 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) in the quarterfinals.
Japanese pairs Ikeda/Shiratori and Ageba/Taira both came out on the winning end with straight-set and three-set victories, respectively.
