The Commission met in a hybrid format this week
The Volleyball Council held its annual meeting this week to discuss the success of the sport and explore upcoming events for 2023-2024.
The Council met via video conference with Commission President and South American Volleyball Confederation (CSV) President Marco Tulio Teixeira and Commission Secretary Michael Everaert joining from the FIVB Headquarters alongside all of the Continental Confederation Presidents: Asian Volleyball Confederation President Rita Subowo, African Volleyball Confederation President Bouchra Hajij, European Volleyball Confederation President Aleksandar Boričić and North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation President Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz.
The Council focused on a number of key topics, such as the volleyball calendar 2023-2024, the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the World Rankings, development of the Age Group activities and regulations tests. Additionally, the Commission looked into the volleyball calendar strategy for 2025-2032.
FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° opened the meeting by sharing the latest successes volleyball, including the results of major events in 2022, stating:
“2022 has been an incredible year for volleyball. We hosted two highly successful World Championships this year – the men’s edition in Poland and Slovenia and the women’s edition in the Netherlands and Poland.
“Of course, we are always keen to provide more opportunities for national teams to participate in our main events. So we have confirmed an increase in the number of participating teams in the FIVB Volleyball World Championships following the approval of the FIVB Board of Administration. 32 teams per gender will now participate in future editions of the prestigious tournament, with the competition formula being the same for the men’s and women’s editions.”
Volleyball Council President and CSV President Marco Tulio Teixeira said:
“We had a very productive meeting with the Volleyball Council and had a great opportunity to talk about the successes of volleyball and look into future events. With a number of key events planned for the upcoming years, I have no doubt we can continue to showcase our sport and athletes around the world with more competitive and exciting matches for fans to look forward to.”
The FIVB Commission meetings will continue next week with the Athletes’ Commission meeting scheduled for 5 December, Marketing Commission on 6 December and Beach Volleyball Commission on 7 December.
