VIRTUAL MEETING HELD BETWEEN QVA AND JAPANESE CITY COUNCIL OF CHITA

Bangkok, Thailand, January 29, 2021 – A virtual meeting was held Thursday morning between the Qatar Volleyball Association and the Japanese City Council of Chita and its sports committee via video conferencing, volleyball.qa reported.

The aim of the meeting was to seek support for the Qatari beach volleyball team including the superb duo of Cherif Yunes and Ahmed Tejan, ranked among the world’s best teams, who had also been invited. The meeting agreed in principle that the support will come in the form of using the stadiums in Chita, a city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan during the pre-season preparation period for the Tokyo Olympics 2020, as the city is one of the Japan’s best cities to have environment-friendly venues for practicing beach volleyball.

The meeting was attended by Mr Mohamed Salem Al-Kuwari, member of the QVA Board of Directors and Vice Chairman of the Beach Volleyball Committee, and the Qatari beach volleyball pairing as well as the national team coach Mr Mariano and his assistant, Pablo.

Also in attendance were a representative of the Japanese community side, a group of students from different age groups from Yawata Middle School for Secondary Education headed by the principal of the school, Mr. Sato, as well as a representative of the community side in Qatar, students of different ages from the Japanese School in Doha headed by its principal Mr Kamatsu.

During the meeting, several aspects of cultural and sports exchange between the Japanese city of Chita and the Qatar Volleyball Association had been discussed in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games aside from the support of the Japanese community for the Qatari team during their participation in the Tokyo Olympics.
The national team and the technical director of the team also explained the rules of the game and the most important characteristics of beach volleyball.

For his part, Mr Mohammed Salem Al-Kuwari expressed his great happiness in participating in the meeting, which made a preparatory step for the Qatari team to participate in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Also raised for discussion were key topics related to providing logistical matters in the preparation camp stage that will precede the Qataris’ participation in the Olympics.
