Volleyball Australia has recently welcomed Olympic beach volleyball coach Pepe Costa to the national coaching staff as the Assistant Coach for the Men’s High Performance Beach Program.
Based at the South Australia Institute of Sport, Costa joins the squad of Men’s Beach Volleyroos and Developing Beach Volleyroos based in Adelaide.
Having played professional beach volleyball in Brazil for four years and with more than 18 years of coaching experience, Costa joins the Australian national coaching team with a wealth of international experience, most recently having coached both the women’s team in Paraguay and the men’s team in Qatar.
During his time with the Qatar national team, he coached the men to an Asain Continental Cup championship in 2016, a gold medal in the 2016 FIVB Kish Island Open, plus gold and silver medals at the 2016 Asian Beach Games.
His team of Cherif Younousse and Jefferson Pereira placed 9th at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and 5th at the 2015 World Championships.
“I am very happy and proud for the opportunity to be part of such a grand and traditional institution as Volleyball Australia and I am very grateful,” Costa said on his appointment.
“I have been waiting for this for many years and I will work to add and help the team to achieve all the proposed objectives.”
Volleyball Australia National Performance Director, Craig Marshall, welcomed Costa to the national coaching cohort.
“We are really excited about having Pepe join our National Beach Volleyball Program in Adelaide to work with our men’s teams,” Marshall said.
“He is an Olympic coach with much experience and will be a strong asset for us. His work ethic and expertise will be invaluable for both athletes and staff.
“He will be a vital link joining our cohesive coaching team to deliver a world class program for our athletes and teams.”
