Boracay, Philippines, May 22, 2019 – The Philippines is hosting an FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event for the second time from May 23-26 in the island of Boracay.
Thirty-one teams from 13 countries including Australia, Austria, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Malaysia, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand and Ukraine are fielded in the men’s tournament, while 18 women’s teams from Australia, Israel, Japan, Lithuania, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia and Thailand will play in the women’s tournament.
The men’s field is top-billed by Oman’s Mazin Alhashmi and Nouh Al-Jalbubi, while Singapore’s Eliza Chong and Lau Ee Shan lead as the women’s top seeds.
Meanwhile, the Philippines is hoping to improve on last year’s best finish of 13th place in the men’s tournament and fifth-place finish in the women’s tournament in Manila.
The host nation will be going all-out in the World Tour this year fielding in three men’s teams led by Alnakran Abdilla and Jessie Lopez and four women’s teams headed by Manila 1-star quarterfinalist Cherry Ann Rondina and new partner Bernadeth Pons.
