Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, October 7, 2021 – Determined Zhetysu brushed off Choco Mucho in comfortable straight sets 25-14, 25-11, 25-23 in their 5th-6th playoff match in the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship at Terminal 21 Hall on Thursday.
Tyler Marie Kalei Mau led the Choco Mucho’s attacks in the first set, but the Zhetysu’s superb net play power was not something that the Philippine outfit could cope with easily. The Kazakhs, who routed the same rivals in straight sets in the preliminary Pool A encounter earlier, continued their good run in this match with exceptional attacks, while Choco Mucho tried hard to come back.
Nonetheless, Zhetysu fared much better to dash the opponents’ high hopes. As Zhetysu took command after the second technical timeout, Tatyana Mashkova carried out well-placed serves and Valeriya Shatunova uncorked a series of sharp attacks to help the team win the lopsided battle 25-14.
The second set did not turn out to be an intense battle the same as the opener. As Choco Mucho mounted a strong challenge against the rivals, Zhetysu came out with a better standard. They utilised their height advantage in attacking devastatingly and blocking effectively, with Tatyana Nikitana’s back-to-back powerful spikes for the team’s effortless second-set win 25-11.
Both sides poured everything in the third set. However, although Choco Mucho regrouped and fought back heavily, Zhetysu still proved a class above the lower-ranked rivals. Zhetysu put a limit to Choco Mucho with aggressive spikes and effective blocks to eventually capture the hard-fought set 25-23, match and the fifth place.
