The Commission discussed a number of important topics during its annual meeting
The FIVB Rules of the Game and Refereeing Commission looked ahead with excitement to 2024, an Olympic year, during its annual meeting this week.
The Commission hosted its meeting in a hybrid format with the Commission President Guillermo Paredes and Secretary José Casanova joining from the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, while other members joined virtually.
During the meeting, Commission members discussed the key updates related to volleyball, including the Volleyball Calendar 2025-2028 and the innovative enhancements to the video officiating system. In addition, they listened to the reports and proposals from the Commission’s working groups.
Highlighting the important work of the Commission, the FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:
“As Commission members, you are tasked with setting the standard and preparing referees to remain composed and precise under pressure, a crucial requirement in this Olympic year when stakes and emotions run high. Our goal is for volleyball to be recognised as the most fairly officiated sport at the Games, setting a benchmark in sportsmanship and integrity.
“I encourage the Commission to leverage technology to safeguard our sport’s integrity, enabling referees to communicate more effectively during matches for greater public understanding and clarity on decision-making. Moreover, challenge referees must be trained to make swift and accurate decisions. I rely on your expertise to maintain consistency and quality of refereeing at our events.”
The FIVB Commissions meetings continue this week with the Legal Commission on 1 February and Athletes’ Commission on 2 February.
