Bangkok, Thailand, February 2, 2024 – The AVC Medical Committee Meeting, which was held in a hybrid format at Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel Bangkok, came to a successful conclusion on Thursday.
Dr Rueangsak Siriphol from Thailand chaired the meeting, attended by Dr Jae Keun Oh from Korea as MC Secretary. Dr Jyoji Yoshizawa from Japan and Dr Gholam Reza Nowrouzi from Iran also joined on Zoom to get updated on important medical issues.
AVC President Mrs Rita Subowo, accompanied by AVC Executive Director Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, delivered a welcome speech. She thanked all Members for their cooperation to support AVC activities last year and hope all Members to continue the collaboration this year.
Following her speech, the meeting acknowledged the Minutes of 2023 AVC MC Meeting as well as related medical matters from the previous meeting. They heard decisions of the 46th AVC Board of Administration Meeting, Activity Reports of 2023 AVC Championships and medical and anti-doping matters in 2023 AVC events.
The meeting also acknowledged the reports of Medical aspect anti-doping matters from the Medical Delegates who were appointed in AVC events last year. The irregularity of anti-doping control in the 19th Asian Games, China was mentioned.
Regarding the 2023 AVC competitions, it was reported that no serious medical matters was found and referee’s alcohol tests were conducted due to COVID-19 precautions. The AVC President suggested AVC Headquarters to have better communication with OCA Medical Committee and the host before the competition to decrease unforeseen problems. During the meeting, Dr Rueangsak informed the meeting of related natters from FIVB Medical Commission Meeting on December 1, 2023 and 2024 AVC and OCA events including volleyball, beach volleyball, snow volleyball.
The 2024 Competition Calendar was also raised for discussion, but the MC Chairman said due to the limited budget of AVC, the nomination of Medical Delegate will be considered by AVC only the events of national senior level and the availability of AVC MC Member in the host countries. For OCA events, the host will determine whether request for the MD appointment is necessary.
