Two Australian teams are in south-eastern Brazil this week for the second Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 event of the season in Uberlândia.

Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar moved up to the number two world ranking following their bronze medal at the Elite 16 in Tepic, Mexico last month.

It was the Olympic silver medallists third straight podium in Elite 16 events having also claimed bronze at Torquay, Victoria in November and at the Elite 16 Finals in Doha, Qatar in February.

Clancy and Artacho del Solar open their campaign at 2am AEST on Saturday in Pool D action against Brazil’s Andressa Cavalcanti Ramalho and Vitoria de Souza Rodrigues.

Later on Saturday they will meet Swiss world number five pair Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner with their final pool match against a qualifier on Sunday morning.

Tom Hodges and Zac Schubert are in qualifying action tonight against Remi Bassereau and Julien Lyneel of France. The two pairs are familiar with each other having faced off in Beach Pro Tour Challenge events in Torquay, Victoria in November and La Paz, Mexico in March, with the Aussies prevailing 2-0 on both occasions.

Should Hodges and Schubert win that match, they will need to win one more game to claim one of four remaining positions in the main draw.
