Bangkok, Thailand, August 27, 2022 – The 3rd AVC Men’s Challenge Cup is ready for big kick-off coming Monday at Sports and Recreation Complex Gazprom in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, with the host side strutting their stuff against Mongolia and Uzbekistan challenging Saudi Arabia.
The AVC Men’s Challenge Cup, an international volleyball competition in Asia contested by the lower-ranked senior men’s national teams of the members of the continent’s governing body AVC, will be held between August 29 and September 3, 2022.

The quartet will contest the single round-robin preliminaries on the first three days (August 29-30-31), with September 1 the day for rest and recovery. The competition resumes on September 2, with the team ranked first in the first round taking on the fourth-ranked side and the second-ranked team fighting it out with the third-ranked side. The two winning teams then set up a final clash to vie for top honour, with the two losers contesting the bronze-medal match.
To review hosts Kyrgyzstan’s preparation ahead of the official commencement on Monday, the joint meeting was held at the Conference Room Kapriz Issyk Kul Resort in Cholpon-Ata, with Technical Delegate Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, himself AVC Executive Director, and Mr Kylych Sarbaghyshev, Secretary General of Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) and Kyrgyzstan Volleyball Association, jointly presiding.
Also in attendance were Referee Delegate Mr Songsak Chareonpong, himself Chairman of the AVC Referees Committee, VIS Delegate Mr Pavarit Dairinram and local organisers.

After that, the bilateral working group went for venue inspection at Sports and Recreation Complex Gazprom, which will serve as the main competition site for the six-day tournament.
The first edition of the AVC Men’s Challenge Cup took place in 2018 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Iraq reigned supreme, while Saudi Arabia were placed second. Hosts Sri Lanka and Bangladesh finished third and fourth places respectively.
The second edition of the biennial competition was due to be held in Cholpon-Ata in 2020, but was eventually cancelled due to grave concerns over the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The 3rd AVC Women’s Challenge Cup was held earlier in June in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, with Hong Kong, China capturing their unprecedented title. India and Malaysia finished second and third places, while Uzbekistan and Singapore came in fourth and fifth places respectively.
