CANDIDO AND EBRAHIM GUIDE GRITTY AL-AHLI TO 3-0 TRIUMPH OVER KHAYPIL SPORTS CLUB

Manama, Bahrain, May 18, 2023 – Spectacular performances from Hasan Ebrahim and Gabriel Candido led Al-Ahli to a scintillating 3-0 (25-20, 37-35, 25-17) victory over Khaypil Sports Club in their first classification match for 9th-16th places in the 2023 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship at Issa Bin Rashed Hall 1 on Thursday.

The dynamic duo scored respective 18 and 10 points as Al-Ahli powered past Khaypil Sports Club in straight sets in Pool G. 

   

It was a complete team effort for the hosts, which also received tireless contributions from the Italian setter Davide Saitta, regarded by the coach as the pick of the team spirit. 

Bahrain’s Al-Ahli mounted a strong challenge in this crucial classification match against Khaypil Sports Club. The Yemenis on their first attendance at this championship came up in full strength. Still, the classy Al-Ahli took the lead 18-14. Khaypil Sports Club could not cope with the rivals’ power-and-speed tactics and went down in the first set to the well-established Bahraini counterparts 25-20. 

The hosts temporarily lost their touch in the second set, leaving Khaypil Sports Club to seize the opportunity to attack effectively and block solidly. The rally was taking so long as no side was intending to surrender. The challenging set kept everyone on the edge of the seat but finally Al-Ahli closed the nail-biting set 37-35.  

The fired-up hosts remained irresistible in the third set as they performed superbly with impenetrable defence, solid blocks and powerful attacks to capture the set 25-17, and match.
