Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, August 29, 2023 – With just one day away before the 22nd Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship will kick off at the 5,000-seater Chartchai Hall and The Mall Korat’s MCC Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima on Wednesday, all participating teams have already undergone the preliminary inquiry.
Control Committee President Mr Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, himself AVC Secretary General, and Technical Sub Committee Member Dr Shihab Al Din Ahmed Said Al Riyami from Oman, Technical Delegate Mr Raditia Rahmat Darwis, Medical Delegate Dr Rueangsak Siriphol and Thailand Volleyball Association Secretary General Mr Nattapong Kesaphan jointly conducted the preliminary inquiry on Monday night.
On this occasion, coaches have also been asked to comment on their teams’ preparation and expectation in this topflight championship.
“My players are very young with average age is 22. I think this championship is very important as it will be new experience for them. However, we are now facing a big problem when one of the team setters suffered from an injury on Monday and I’m unsure if she can recover in time. I hope that her injury can heal so that she can join the team in this competition,” – Iran’s head coach Rashidi Kiklahjani Fatemeh.
“We are very glad to come here. It’s a very important championship for us as we are preparing for the Asian Games. So, we will try our best and show our perfect game to all volleyball fans and spectators. I hope that those fans will like our game,” – Kazakhstan head coach Rishat Gilyazutdinov.
“We are very excited to be here. We have a lot of new, young players and haven’t played the Asian Championship before. We had a good, leading tournament in Vietnam and so we are growing strong. We know that there are many good teams in Asian region and we’ve expected to be a very big challenge. We are looking to grow and land as a team and hopefully get some wins in this tournament,” – Australia head coach Nicole Hannan.
“It is nice to be here in Thailand for the Asian Senior Women’s Championship. We are very happy to be here. My team are well-prepared and I hope we will do our best in this championship,” – India head coach Ajit Mahadeo Patil.
“Our team are preparing for the Asian Games because the Asian Championship is being held before the Asian Games. Our Hong Kong, China team are just amateur, not professional team. So, our players have their own jobs and some of them are students. Some players missed this event since they could not leave their jobs. We have been competing in this championship for many years. I think my players have confidence to concentrate and focus on the performance. Win or loss is not that important for us since our team players are not professional. We just want to do our best and focus on our performance. Some players in this team will compete in the Asian Games, while some others may not join the trip to Hangzhou,” – Hong Kong, China head coach Kwok Kin Chuen.
“We have a very good preparation for this championship and hope we will have good result here,” – Vietnam assistant coach Nguyen Trong Linh.
“We had good preparation in the last three weeks. We are in Pool C and will have our first match against Vietnam and we keep it a key match for that. We prepared well and I hope that we will fight for the semifinals. We know we have to meet Thailand, but Thailand will have to pass their group and we also should pass ours,” – Korea head coach Hernandez Gonzalez Cesar.

Meanwhile, in the early Tuesday morning, Thailand team, both players, staff coaches and officials visited the heart of the host city Nakhon Ratchasima to worship Thao Suranaree (Ya Mo) Monument, asking for their wishes including good health, encouragement and the team’s third victory in the 22nd Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship.
Thailand had captured the Asian title twice in 2009 in Vietnam and 2013 here in Nakhon Ratchasima. Ten years have gone by so fast and home fans have their sights firmly set on the Thailand team to reign supreme for the third time in history in this host city.
Nakhon Ratchasima Governor Mr Sayam Sirimongkol presided over this sacred ceremony, with Thailand head coach Mr Danai Sriwacharamaytakul, all team players including Chatchu-on Moksri, Ajcharaporn Kongyot, Pimpichaya Kokram, Thatdao Nuekjang and Pornpun Guedpard as well as Nootsara Tomkom, former Thailand team captain and one of the world’s renowned setters assigned as team staff coach, in attendance.
