Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, August 29, 2023 – AVC has confirmed a list of 14 referees who will officiate the 22nd Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship, which will be held simultaneously at the 5,000-seater Chartchai Hall and The Mall Korat’s MCC Hall between August 30 and September 6, 2023.

A strong field of 14 teams across the continent will showcase their talents in this action-packed eight- day championship, striving for their success in this topflight competition and accumulated points for FIVB World Ranking. Participating teams comprise Mongolia, Australia and Thailand in Pool A, with India, Iran and defending and consecutive two-time champions Japan in Pool B. Pool C consists of Korea, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan and Vietnam, while Kazakhstan joined Hong Kong China, China and Philippines in Pool D.

All accompanying referees have successfully taken part in the Referee Clinic prior to the matchdays. In the Tuesday morning, they underwent the theoretical part at the meeting room inside the Chartchai Hall. All referees stood a good opportunity to learn all necessary refereeing matters including crucial rules of the game from Referee Delegate Mr Songsak Chareonpong from Thailand, himself Chairman of the AVC Referees Committee and Member of FIVB Rules of the Game and Refereeing Commission, and three Sub Committee Members – Mr Takashi Shimoyama from Japan, Mr Chang Chin Jong from Chinese Taipei and Dr Khalid Al-Zughaibi from Saudi Arabia.

Having completed the theoretical phase in the morning, all referees attended the practical session inside the court in the afternoon. They had a chance of officiating matches performed by two demonstration teams aside from working closely with VIS and the Video Challenge Systems which will help them benefit the new technology to assist the referees in the decision-making process in order to make the game absolutely fair to the athletes’ actions. The referees had already put in a very good performance during the Referee Clinic and are believed to show their utmost capabilities in this top-tier championship.
