COACHES READY FOR ACTION-PACKED MATCHDAYS OF 14TH ASIAN MEN’S U18 CHAMPIONSHIP IN TEHRAN

Tehran, Iran, August 14, 2022 – Shortly after the preliminary inquiry, coaches of teams participating in the 14th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Federation Hall between August 15 and 22, 2022, stopped by for short interview requests.

“We did not have much time for the practice because in Korea there are many leagues at school level and we had only three weeks to practice. We had short time practicing. We played with many pro teams in Korean Leagues and I think we can do great job in this championship”, Kim Jangbin, head coach of Korea, said.

“We started our training three months ago with 30 people, but with the current players, we have been training for a month. We came to Iran earlier and played two times with the national Men’s U18 team of Iran but we lost twice. We could not play much further as Corona in China and Beijing played a role”, Gong Zaifeng, head coach of China, said.

“In only six weeks, we selected sixty-seven players from different part of India, and at the end, we selected twenty persons. Physically and technically, we are good but we need to improve our improvements”, Bir Singh Yadav, head coach of India, said.

“I am very pleased that we had the chance to play with China and Iraq junior teams at home in a friendly encounter. This age groups are the future of volleyball and we should be very careful how to teach them the basics of volleyball. We are thinking of the best medal in this event”, commented Reza Vakili, head coach of Iran.

“We started training two months ago in Kuwait and after that we started our own camp for 14 days in Istanbul where we competed with six teams from which two of them were Turkish club teams of under 23 years old. Overall, I evaluated their performance and I think, they are doing a good job”, said Khalid Almutairi, head coach of Kuwait.

“We got together only a few days ago and we did not practice much. The previous tournament was cancelled due to the coronavirus. We are not familiar with the other teams, but we will do our best”, Hiroshi Honda, head coach of Japan, said.

“We practiced before the competition for two months. Many of my player are about 16 years old. I think, the players worry about the big game. So, we will do our best for the best result. We did not have a friendly match due to the situation with COVID-19,” Khjhornsak Manapornchai, head coach of Thailand, said.

“We played a friendly match only with the college team. This time, the goal is to advance to the semi-finals and get the ticket to the World Championship”, Chen Chun-Chang, head coach of Chinese Taipei, said.

A total of eight teams arrived in host city Tehran and are well-prepared for the championship. The eight-day event will burst into thrilling actions on August 15. Teams will test their mettle in the pool round-robin preliminaries based upon Berger categorization within two pools.
