The signing ceremony took place in the presence of high-level government and sports officials

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° yesterday approved two years of beach volleyball coaching support, part of the FIVB’s Volleyball Empowerment development programme, to support the development of the sport in the Republic of Maldives and improve the level of its national men’s and women’s teams.

The official ceremony took place in Male, the country’s capital, during the official visit of the FIVB President to the Maldives. Present at the ceremony were Ahmed Mahloof, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Male’s City Mayor and Mohamed Raneysh, President of the Volleyball Association of Maldives, in addition to other high-level attendees.

Volleyball Empowerment is the FIVB’s revolutionary development programme which aims to improve the level of volleyball and beach volleyball worldwide by reinvesting the money that comes from the sport back into the sport.

During his opening remarks, the FIVB President said:

“The FIVB is committed to helping the Maldives unlock its full potential which is why we are here today and, through our Volleyball Empowerment programme, have approved two-years of coaching support. Through this, we will assign a highly-experienced and professional coach to bring the national team to the next level.

“Volleyball Empowerment is a revolutionary programme in the world of sport, where we provide support to National Federations to empower and improve the technical level of national teams and athletes to provide them with the skills to play at the highest level. And these national teams can then inspire new generations of players and fans to engage with our beloved sport.”

Prior to the signing ceremony, the FIVB President also visited a volleyball sports facility in Male where he addressed a number of local young players. He shared with them his experience as a player and encouraged them to continue training and working hard to achieve great results.

Earlier that day, the FIVB President also gave an exclusive interview to Maldives’ Raajje TV where he discussed the potential of the country in beach volleyball and his vision for the future of the sport. He also met with Managing Director of Raajje TV, Ahmed Saleem.

During the interview, FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:

“I want beach volleyball in the Maldives to be among the biggest sports in this country, with a strong national team to help inspire new generations of players and fans. Because I have no doubt that the Maldives and beach volleyball are the perfect fit.

“But this is not just about my vision for the sport in the Maldives, this is about the strong and ambitious vision of the Volleyball Association of Maldives and its President, Mohamed Raneysh. They understand the potential and opportunity for Maldives to not only improve the level of the sport locally, from grassroots through to the elite, but to also be a dream location for world-class beach volleyball events.”
