GUANGDONG SECURE SEMIFINAL BERTH IN CHINESE WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

Bangkok, Thailand, December 11, 20202 – Guangdong struggled hard to overcome Shanghai 3-2 (25-22, 17-25, 16-25, 25-15, 15-10) on Thursday to book the last ticket in the semifinals of the Chinese Women’s Volleyball League in Jiangmen, xinhuanet.com reported.

Louisa Lippmann scored three points in a row after both sides tying in the first set. Although Shanghai tried hard to erase the gap, it still made two fatal errors at the end to concede the set by a slim margin 22-25. They bounced back mightily with destructive attacks and scintillating blocks to take the next two sets 25-17 25-16.

The fourth set became a lop-sided show for Guangdong, which built a commanding 11-3 lead at the start before Shanghai fought back to cut the score 6-12. However, Guangdong gradually controlled the pace of the match and denied Shanghai a chance to rally back.

The decider was dominated by Guangdong, which led from start to finish for the eventual 15-10 in the set and the dramatic 3-2 win in the tough match.

Kelsey Robinson scored a match-high 31 points for Guangdong while Lippmann contributed 27 points for Shanghai.

In other actions, Du Qingqing scored 25 points and Qian Jingwen added 14 as Shandong beat Liaoning 3-0 (22-25, 16-25, 18-25) while Wang Yizhu and Yu Yunwei combined for 42 points to lift Tianjin over Jiangsu 3-2 (16-25, 25-14, 19-25, 25-18, 15-9).

The first round of the semifinals will be played on December 12.
