INDIA NO MATCH FOR FIRED-UP CHINA TO SUCCUMB TO THREE SUCCESSIVE LOSSES IN 14TH ASIAN WOMEN’S U18 CHAMPIONSHIP

Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, June 9, 2022 – India found in-form China too strong to go down in straight sets 9-25, 12-25, 12-25 at the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Nakhon Pathom Sports Center on Thursday.

After a four-set letdown to Kazakhstan in the previous match on Wednesday, India suffered another loss the following day, this time at the hands of powerhouses China, loaded with strong players including Chen Xiyue, Wang Yindi and Fan Poning. India left the competition venue with heads bowed in despair with only one win and three consecutive losses.

Against China in the opening set, India found the impeccable rivals too hot to handle to go down in one-sided battle 9-25. China continued their superb form in the following sets, solidifying their defence and unleashing back-to-back attacks in crucial moments to annul the Indians’ fightback and win the remaining two sets 25-12, 25-12 and match.

Chen Xiyue chipped in with 15 points for China, while Wang Yindi and Fan Poning contributed with 14 and 10 points apiece. Kavita led India with 10 points.

China on Saturday will challenge Kazakhstan in their last preliminary match, while India, assured of being relegated to 5th-8th playoffs, will be pitted against Chinese Taipei for a better position in Pool B. Friday will be the rest day for every participating team.

“We do our best to bag one more win. We need to move up to the semifinals and this is our goal that we intend to reach here,” Wen Ye, head coach of China, said.
