IRAN SEAL STRAIGHT-SETS MATCH OVER KOREA IN AVC CUP

Pasig City, Philippines, August 22, 2022 – Iran debuted in Pool A of the preliminary round of the 2022 AVC Cup for Women on Monday evening with a 3-0 match (25-10, 25-15, 25-13) against Korea at the PhilSports Arena.

Aytak Salamatgharamaleki led all scorers on the board with 11 points, while Elahe Poor Saleh Shahdehsari added another 10 points for the victory.

Iran’s experience took over their younger opponents, dominating on all fronts to establish their system and dictate the tempo of the match. They ran their attacks on Aytak and Elahe. They connected on blocks and they also unleashed service winners.

The Korean side improved their pacing which allowed for them to play along several rallies with their opponents. Captain Hwang Jimin and opposite Choi Hosun converted with impressive swings that energized the young team on the floor.

Iran brought in their bench players who delivered equally well. Outside hitter Maedeh Borhani Esfahani converted on attack in the closing plays, mounting momentum toward Iran’s straight-sets victory.

“As an Italian coach working in Iran, I am trying to bring in a new methodology, how to select, scout and train talents. Iran has a huge number of players, and this gives a huge possibility to train these talents,” said coach Alessandra Kampedelli in an interview after the match on Monday evening.

Iran will look to highlight their brand of play when they face Vietnam on Tuesday, August 23 at 16:00. Korea will head to a rest day and resume play, likewise against Vietnam, on Wednesday, August 24, in the opening match at 13:00. All times local.
