Bangkok, Thailand, April 13, 2023 – Kashkadarya Region and Karakalpakstan were respectively crowned boys’ and girls’ champions of the recently-concluded Uzbekistan Boys’ and Girls Under-16 Volleyball Championships in the city of Karshi, Kashkadarya Region, Uzbekistan.
The championships had been held from March 23 to 29, with a total of 27 teams from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Tashkent city, and regions actively taking part in this one-week, double-gender competition.
The opening ceremony of this competition was held in upbeat mood on March 23, with Mr Vakhob Ruziyev, Head of the Youth Policy and Sports Directorate of the Kashkadarya Region, and Mr Farkhod Alimov, Secretary General of the Uzbekistan Volleyball Federation, jointly presiding. About 400 athletes as well as 60 staff coaches and referees also attended the ceremony.
In this auspicious opening, Faridakhan Khayriddinova, coach of the Smir girls’ team, received a souvenir on her birthday this day. The organizers wished all participating teams good luck in the championships and the bright future.
After one week of hectic matches in the championships, Kashkadarya Region reigned supreme in the boys’ event.
Navoi Region took home silver, with Andijan Region claiming bronze.
The girls’ title went to Karakalpakstan, while Andijan Region and Khorezm Region finished second and third places to bag silver and bronze medals respectively.
Avaz Karimov, Advisor to the Minister of Youth Policy and Sports, Vakhob Rizayev, Head of the Youth Policy and Sports Directorate of Kashkadarya Region, Head of the IIB Department of Kashkadarya Region, and sports veterans presented trophies and medals to teams and players during the awards presentation and closing ceremony on March 29.
