Bangkok, Thailand, December 13, 2021 – Sri Lanka’s preparation for the 2021 CAVA Central Zone Senior Men’s Challenge Cup in Dhaka between December 23 and 28 is on the right track following their clean sweep of all three-match volleyball Test Series against hosts Maldives.
Sri Lanka, which are due to play host to the Challenge Cup and test their mettle against Uzbekistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Maldives, left on December 8 for the Tour of Maldives where the Sri Lankans and the Maldivians had competed in three friendly matches at the Maldives National Stadium between December 9 and 11.
With Mr Channa Jayasekara at the helm as head coach and Lasidu Methmal the pick of the bunch as new captain of the team, Sri Lanka performed well up to their standard to beat hosts Maldives in comfortable straight sets 25-13, 25-14, 25-18 in their first match on December 9.
In the following match, the determined Sri Lanka, fielding many young talents, still proved a cut above the same rivals as they downed the host side in another straight sets 25-19, 25-21, 25-23. The third match on December 11 saw Sri Lanka fare better to pull off a convincing 25-17, 25-17, 25-19 for their three in succession in Maldives.
