STAR SPIKER LI YINGYING SPEARHEADS TIANJIN’S LINEUP AT CHINESE NATIONAL VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Bangkok, Thailand, September 17, 2020 – Terrific Li Yingying will lead Tianjin’s strong lineup as the reigning league champions start their campaign in the Chinese National Women’s Volleyball Championship next Wednesday, said a news release on xinhuanet.com.

Li Yingying last year steered Tianjin Bohai Bank to a stunning 3-1 victory over defending and successive two-time champions Supreme Chonburi E-Tech at the final showdown of the 2019 Asian Women’s Club Championship on her home soil.

“I just came back from the training camp of the national team and everything is so familiar to me,” said the 20-year-old side hitter, who helped China claim the World Cup title a year ago in Japan. “I will work with my teammates and get well prepared for the upcoming games.”

Li Yingying played a key role in steering Tianjin to victory in the 2017-2018 and 2019-2020 Chinese Volleyball League. Her squad took silver medal in the 2018-2019 season.

Furthermore, she has landed several individual awards including “Best Scorer” in the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 Chinese Volleyball League, “Most Valuable Player” in 2017-2018 Chinese Volleyball League and “Best Outside Spiker” and “Most Valuable Player” in the 2019 Asian Women’s Club Championship in Tianjin, China.

Middle blocker Wang Yuanyuan also returned from the national team to join Tianjin in their quest for the title.

“While we were training with the national team in the last few months, our teammates were also working hard with our coach in Tianjin, so I am very confident in our team,” said Wang in a recent interview with Chinese local media.

Wang Baoquan, who has led the Tianjin women’s volleyball team to ten league titles in 17 years, will continue to lead his spikers in their first competition following their 3-0 triumph in the best-of-five finals of the Chinese women’s volleyball league in January.

The Chinese National Women’s Volleyball Championship will be held from September 23 to October 2 in Jiangmen, south China’s Guangdong province. A total of 13 teams will play in two groups in the round-robin preliminaries with the top four finishers from each pool qualifying for the knock-out stage.
