Gresik, East Java, Indonesia, June 20, 2023 – Uzbekistan copped their first victory in the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup for Women after a five-set match, 3-2 (25-20, 14-25, 15-25, 25-16, 15-10) against Mongolia at the Tri Dharma Petrokimia Gresik Gymnasium.
Uzbekistan now stand as the second-ranked team in Pool D, following Vietnam, as they have completed the Preliminary Round on Tuesday evening.
Boymirzayeva Dilnoza provided clutch points to bounce back in the fourth set and to help secure the decider for the Uzbekistan side. She scored 19 points from 13 attacks, 5 blocks and a service winner. Toshkenboyeva Khodisakhon and Olimova Malikabonu likewise scored in double-digits, posting 14 points and 10 points respectively.
Mongolia opposite hitter Ganbold Enkhnaran scored massively with 26 points in defeat.
Uzbekistan opened the match as they played aggressively against an equally capable team. There was effective distribution of plays showing how the team could respond accordingly on transition.
Mongolia later improved their efficiency in vast proportions, showing tighter execution of plays. They grew more comfortable and confident in running their offense, even running combination plays and effectively converting the same.
Uzbekistan wanted the same out of the match as they forced the decider, with Boymirzayeva delivering in the definitive moments.
Teams stood within striking distance of each other playing along each side-out in the fifth set.
Uzbekistan slowly gained momentum, as they kept a close watch in blocking. Boymirzayeva tried to do everything from blocking to attacking, ensuring a strong middle game towards the end. They continued their momentum with power serves, which helped seal victory in the decider.
Uzbekistan will face Chinese Taipei in the classification match on Wednesday at 14:00 while Mongolia will meet Hong Kong, China in the earlier match at 09:00. All times local.
