Hong Kong, November 22, 2021 – The first Volleyball Coaching Workshop: Elementary Volleyball Techniques, held by the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China (VBAHK), took place on November 12, 2021 in Tsing Yi Southwest Sports Centre.

The workshop was organized by Coaching Commission and Training and Development Commission, and is a part of the Extended Training Programme of Coaches in order to enhance participants’ knowledge in teaching elementary volleyball techniques.

The workshop was conducted by Dragan Mihailovic, FIVB’s high-performance coach from Serbia and Development and Technical Director of the Hong Kong, China Men’s Volleyball Team. Head Coach of Hong Kong, China Men’s Volleyball Team, Mr Yau Hok Chun led the team members Au Chin To, Ng Kin Pong, Jonathan, So Chun Hin, Wong Hei Chun and Yuen Sze Wai to conduct demonstration in the workshop. A total of 35 coaches participated in the workshop together with Directors of VBAHK, Mr Chiu Man Hin, Ms Shek Tsui Wai Fun, Marina, Ms Lee Yuk Fung, Fion and Mr Wong Chi Chor, Seamus.

Mihailovic explains the elementary volleyball techniques in the workshop

Mihailovic expressed that he was glad to have interactions with local coaches and hoped that he could share his experience and insights as a coach in the national teams of different countries through this workshop. He hoped the coaches could make use of the workshop to improve their daily training methods.

During the workshop, Mihailovic shared his coaching philosophy and emphasized the importance of “consistency, regularity and uniformity” in training junior players. He also explained the theory of teaching elementary volleyball skills and provided a lot of advice on the training of six major volleyball skills (serving, receiving, setting, spiking, blocking and defending). Five members of the Hong Kong, China Men’s Volleyball Team also demonstrated drills during the workshop with Mihailovic providing detailed analysis and explanation.

VBAHK will continue to organize similar workshops for local coaches in the future, in the hope that such activities can enhance the coaches’ knowledge in addition to the regular courses which help improving their standard and promote the development of local volleyball.
