VOLLEYBALL AMONG POPULAR SPORTS IN ON-GOING LAO NATIONAL GAMES

Bangkok, Thailand, December 15, 2022 – After eight-year hiatus, the 11th Lao National Games bursted into flames and colourful fireworks display during the opening ceremony on December 13, while indoor volleyball competition in the Xiang Khouang Games has reportedly been considered the most popular sport in Xiang Khouang.

The National Games, a multi-sports competition held every three years in Laos, were postponed twice. The previous National Games, hosted by Oudomxay province, took place in 2014, but the following two editions of the Lao National Games could not be held.

The natural disasters in 2017 had affected three northern provinces of Laos, forcing the organisers to postpone the Games that year. Three years later, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic caused the postponement of the 2020 National Games.

In terms of volleyball competition in the Xiang Khouang Games, two gold apiece are up for grabs in the men’s and women’s competitions in both indoor and beach volleyball. To make things clear ahead of the competition, Laos National Volleyball Federation held its meeting on November 30 to review their preparation in staging indoor and beach volleyball in the 11th edition.

More importantly, the certificate presentation was also held in the meeting for 19 referees consisting of 4 indoor and 15 beach volleyball who had completed their course and are now officiating in the on-going Lao National Games in Xiang Khouang province.

The volleyball competition in the 11th Lao National Games kicked off in Xiang Khouang on December 12 and will last until December 21, while beach volleyball in both men’s and women events also opened on December 12 at Na Ngum Park, Paek district, Xiang Khouang province.

The atmosphere of the volleyball competition inside the competition hall was buzzing with pleasure and excitement, thanks to action-packed encounters which attracted a large number of spectators to pack the competition venue to watch those intense matches on site.
