AVC MOURNS THE LOSS OF PRECIOUS LIVES KILLED IN SRI LANKA BLASTS

Bangkok, Thailand, April 23, 2019 – AVC President Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser has joined global political and religious leaders and people from all walks of life in expressing profound condolences on the loss of precious lives and hundreds injured in a series of explosions across Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday.

In his condolence message, Dr Saleh said, “On behalf of the Asian Volleyball Confederation and the entire Asian volleyball family, I’m saddened by multiple bomb blasts and killings of innocent people in Sri Lanka. I would like to express my deepest condolence with Sri Lanka and its people and bereaved families of victims of brutality.

“Words can’t express how saddened I am to hear of the loss of precious lives and hundreds of those injured. Sri Lanka is still mourning the loss and we stand by the people of Sri Lanka and my thoughts go out to grieving families of those beloved and killed in the devastating Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka and are with their countless well-wishers from around the world. I wish Sri Lanka a speedy recovery for those who are wounded and those who were affected, directly or indirectly, by the blasts.

On Monday morning, Sri Lankan volleyball players and team officials taking part in the 2019 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship in Taipei, Chinese Taipei were wearing black armbands to express their deepest sorrow for the loss of compatriots. Sri Lanka Ports Authority Sports Club took on Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City in their top-eight playoff match at the University of Taipei (Tianmu) Gymnasium and pulled off a scintillating 3-1 win against the Vietnamese. A minute’ silence was held ahead of the start of the match in memory of mass casualties in Sri Lanka Easter bombings.
