GENERAL TECHNICAL MEETING WARMS UP ATMOSPHERE FOR 20TH ASIAN SENIOR WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP IN SEOUL

Seoul, Korea, August 17, 2019 – The 20th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship is only a day away and the General Technical Meeting was held at Riviera Hotel here on Saturday, with team managers, head coaches and assistant coaches from 13 teams participating in this top-tier competition being introduced with the rules and regulations as well as the necessary information.

At the beginning of the General Technical Meeting, all representatives heard the opening speech by Control Committee Chairman Dr Eom Hanjoo, himself the Chairman of the AVC Sports Events Council.

 

Also in attendance were all Control Committee members, the organisers, team managers and staff coaches from 13 teams participating in the August 18-25 Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship which comprise China, Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Australia, Iran, Indonesia and Hong Kong China, as well as all international referees.

In his opening speech, Control Committee Chairman Dr Eom Hanjoo said, “On behalf of AVC President Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser, I would like to officially welcome all participating teams to the 20th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship in Seoul, Korea.

“This Championship also serves as the Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament, which will see top eight teams, except Japan and China, in the 20th Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship here qualify for the Olympic qualifying tournament in early January. Only the winning team in that tournament will be eligible for the Tokyo 2020. However, I wish all participating teams a success both in the Asian Championship here and in the Olympic qualifying tournament in January.”

After that, Technical Delegate Mr Yermek Syrlybayev from Kazakhstan reported on the eligibility of players, dress uniformity for officials on bench, transfer protocol between warm-up area and competition court as well as other important matters including choice of colours for match uniform, team spectator seating, team statisticians and communication between team bench and team statisticians.

Referee Delegate Mr Dean Turner from Australia explained about the rules of the game to be applied for use in this championship, match protocol and the Challenge System.

Medical Delegate Dr Oh Jae-Keun talked about the medical matters including court medical assistance, while Press Delegate Ms Jeoung Bogja asked for team head coaches’ kind cooperation on interviews opportunities. If requested by the press, she said, team head coaches and captain, or any players requested by the press, must be available for short interview at the mixed zone shortly after the end of each match. However, if specially requested, the organisers have already provided a special room for press conference after each match.

At the end of General Technical Meeting, Control Committee Members and all referees officiating at the 20th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship joined group photo opportunities.

Four participating teams, China, Japan, Thailand and hosts Korea, had also been invited to join the team interviews on Saturday to comment on their teams’ preparation and expectation for the Championship.

Present in the interview room were China’s head coach Bao Zhuang and captain Liu Yanhan, Japan’s head coach Noboru Aihara and captain Tamaki Matsui, Thailand’s head coach Danai Sriwacharamaytakul and captain Nootsara Tomkom and Korea’s head coach Stefano Lavarini from Italy and captain Kim Yeonkoung.

The Welcome Dinner was also held on Saturday for all participating teams, Control Committee Members, Referees and distinguished guests.
