Bangkok, Thailand, June 16, 2022 – In-form Kazakhstan made it two in succession in the second International Volleyball Tournament, which is being held at Manezh Sports Complex in Dushanbe, Tajikistan between June 15 and 20, with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and hosts Tajikistan testing their mettle to vie for top honour in this men’s tournament.

According to the playing format, teams will take on each other twice and only the team with the highest points after completion of the single round-robin competition will be crowned the eventual champions.

The tournament got underway on Wednesday, with Kazakhstan struggling past the fighting Tajikistan in hard-fought five sets 25-18, 20-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-11. The following match on Thursday saw the Kazakhs, fresh from a dramatic 3-2 win against the host side, make it two in a row after seeing off Uzbekistan in straight sets 25-17, 25-12, 25-18.

Uzbekistan will next go up against hosts Tajikistan on Friday and play a rematch the following day. The last two encounters of the six-day tournament see Kazakhstan take on Uzbekistan before setting up a final clash with Tajikistan on Sunday and Monday respectively.

Despite the fact that the first match of the thrilling tournament took place on June 15, the opening ceremony was held the following day, with Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Youth and Sports Mr Dobirzoda Parviz presiding.

Also in attendance were Vice President of the Tajikistan Volleyball Federation Mr Parviz Isoev and TVF Secretary General Mr Muhib Latipov.
