MIKASA SHARES THE BALL CREATION PROCESS WITH FIVB PRESIDENT

Hiroshima, Japan, October 4, 2019 – FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° arrived in Hiroshima, Japan, to visit Mikasa’s headquarters and factory, where he saw the production of the latest volleyball in action.

President Ary Graça met with Mikasa’s President, Mr. Yuji Saeki, and the senior management team to discuss the overall business objectives of the company, before taking a tour of the factory and witnessing the volleyball creation process first hand.

The 2019 FIVB Volleyball World Cup saw the launch of the new “V200W” indoor volleyball, replacing the MVA200, which was first used at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The new ball has an anti-sweat functionality and is well cushioned for intense play.

The delegation saw all phases of the Mikasa ball creation and the President, together with the senior management delegation, participated in the manual lamination of the ball.

The FIVB has enjoyed a long and special relationship with Mikasa, having supplied the FIVB with equipment since volleyball was first included on the Olympic Programme at Tokyo 1964.

After the visit, FIVB President said:

“I was astonished to see the whole process of the ball creation. I have so much respect for the Mikasa President but also for all the staff. The lamination of the balls is done manually with many years of traditional craft techniques in place. So we can see that each ball is unique, it’s a piece of art and it was made with heart.

“When fans see a Mikasa volleyball, they immediately make an association with the sport of volleyball and the FIVB. The ball and the FIVB are now completely united in the eyes of people and I am proud that Mikasa is part of the volleyball family.”
