Bangkok, Thailand, April 14, 2021 – The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has confirmed that the Qatari duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan are among the top 15 teams in Men’s Provisional Olympic Ranking issued on March 15, volleyball.qa said in its press release on April 11.
The Qataris are ranked No. 14 in this Olympic race and under the current qualification system, the top 15, with few exceptions, are assured of securing Olympic berths.
Qualifying for the Olympic Games is, of course, the big goal, and Cherif and Ahmed are confident that they will play in Tokyo, but the Qatari duo must continue to perform at an exceptional level in the final five tournaments prior to the June 13 qualification deadline.
Mr. Mohammed Salem Al Kuwari, Member of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Volleyball Association and Vice-Chairman of the Beach Volleyball Committee, revealed that the national team prepared very well for their participation for overseas tournaments, and that the Association provided them by all means of support and regular preparation.
He noted that the national team are currently in an external camp in the United States for 12 days, after which they will leave for Mexico.
Mr. Mohammed Salem Al Kuwari said that the current position of the Qatari team in the international classification qualifying for the Olympiad is good, but the Association aspires to have the team in advanced positions in the final classification before the Olympiad because this will have an impact on the draw for the final competitions, stressing that the national team are able to achieve good results and advanced positions in the upcoming tournaments.
