SUNTORY SUNBIRDS OUTPLAY NAKHON RATCHASIMA FOR FIRST WIN AT ASIAN MEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Tehran, Iran, May 14, 2022 – Japan’s Premier League champions Suntory Sunbirds got off to a superb start in the 2022 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship following a sensational 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 victory over Nakhon Ratchasima QminC in their opening Pool A match at Azadi Hall here on Saturday.

The match turned out to be one-way traffic, with the Japanese side taking dominance for most of the time, ending the match in comfortable three sets.

The Japanese and Thai clubs began the first set at the same level, trading score one by one but Suntory Sunbirds enlarged the margin before winning 25-19.

Despite the 5-5 tie in the second set, Nakhon Ratchasima fought hard to match the mighty attacks of the Japanese. Suntory Sunbirds reached the second technical timeout 16-12 and went on their superb form to clinch the thrilling set 25-21.

Suntory Sunbirds managed to give Nakhon Ratchasima more trouble in the third set as they left the Thais far behind 10-3 when the Thai head coach Padejsuek Wannachote asked for timeout. Nakhon Ratchasima regrouped to make amends for a sudden slump, but still found Suntory Sunbirds too strong to deal with. The Japanese sealed the totally one-sided set 25-16 and the match.

Suntory Sunbirds will next play hosts Paykan in their second match in Pool A on Sunday, while Nakhon Ratchasima will challenge South Gas of Iraq.
