THE FIVB LEGAL COMMISSION REINFORCED ITS DEDICATION TO MAINTAINING THE FIVB’S PRINCIPLES OF GOOD GOVERNANCE, TRANSPARENCY AND INTEGRITY

The Commission held its annual meeting this week

The FIVB Legal Commission held its annual meeting this week. Their gathering was underpinned by a steadfast commitment to upholding the FIVB’s principles of good governance, transparency, and integrity.

The meeting was held in a hybrid format with the Commission President Rogerio Oliveira and Secretary Alain Fischbacher joining from the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland and the remaining members joining virtually.

The FIVB Legal Commission discussed several important topics, including the significant changes made by the FIVB since 2012 to ensure the highest standards of governance, as well as amendments and implementation of a number of FIVB Regulations. Moreover, the Commission listened to the FIVB Legal and Transfers Department report, which outlined their key workstreams and achievements in 2023.

Highlighting the importance of the Commission, the FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:

“Since assuming the role of the FIVB President, good governance has been my top priority. The good governance transformation, that we have witnessed over the past 12 years, included key reforms to align with best practices, such as term limits, Board of Administration elections, gender equality on the Board and athlete representation in FIVB governance – to name just a few. All this transformation would not have been possible without the contribution of the Legal Commission.”

“Indeed, the significance of good governance across all our work cannot be overstated. We must be well governed for volleyball to prosper, to guarantee the legacy of our sport for future generations, and to ensure our athletes and all our fans can have confidence in our sport.”

The FIVB Commission meetings will finish this week with the Athletes’ Commission scheduled on 2 February.
