The FIVB L2 Coaching Course will be conducted by Triple Olympian Louise Bawden

Bangkok, Thailand, April 21, 2021 – Volleyball Australia will host the FIVB Level 2 Coaching Course in Sydney from July 3-7, 2021, aimed to improve Australian coaches’ knowledge through the expertise of an official FIVB coach developer, with presentations of the most recent trends of the modern game.

Louise Bawden has been appointed by the FIVB to lead the course. Louise competed for Australia in both indoor and beach volleyball; at the 2000 Olympics, as a 19-year-old, she represented Australia in indoor volleyball, where the team finished in ninth place. She then went on to play professionally in the Netherlands for two seasons, as well as help the Australian Women’s team qualify for the 2002 World Championships in Leipzig, Germany.

Bawden switched to beach volleyball and successfully made the 2012 Olympic team for the London games with partner Becchara Palmer. She went on to represent Australia again in the 2016 Rio Olympics with new partner, Taliqua Clancy. Bawden and Clancy finished fifth, falling to eventual bronze medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings and partner April Ross.

Bawden’s professional beach career is a decorated one, as the 2009 FIVB Rookie of the Year was also named the Australian Beach Volleyball Player of the Year six times.

In 2018, Louise announced her retirement from international beach volleyball competition at 37 years of age. The same year, she took on the role of Assistant Coach of Stanford University Women’s Beach Volleyball program in California, USA.
